I got my ford ranger lowered and it looks great. but every since i got it lowered, if i hit 55 to 70 and give it a little bit of gas i hear something grinding, i think its the drive shaft because i never did this before it was lowered and that the drive shaft is at an angle because of a flip kit and blocks. If i give it more gas you cant hear it only if you give a little gas. does anyone know what this is and is this common for a ranger thats lowered.
Hey there fancyplaya and welcome to FTE!
Sounds like the slip yoke to the tranny is binding a bit. You must have an extreme lowering job with the flip and blocks!! If that is your problem, you can visually see the wear marks on the shaft and housing, your best alternative is to have the driveshaft shortened and balanced, AFTER you have the axle brought back into the proper angle(spec). I would think that the driveshaft needs about an 1" to 1 1/2" shorter right now. Once the axle housing is turned to spec, you may need an additional 1" to 1 1/2" more removed. But make sure you have it balanced.
Have it checked asap though. All that money into the lowering and then a new drivetrain to boot? Know what I mean....

Hey there fancyplaya! Naw.. They'll take your driveshaft and put it on a machine that looks like a lathe and the'll add weights to it. Kinda like having your tires balanced. They'll also check it to make sure its not bent or bowed slightly. I think your lower-job is ok, but I would take a look under, where the transmission ends and the driveshaft begins. If there's a problem, you'll see bare metal and some worn or bulging from the yoke. (the piece that slides into the transmission). Get back to me if you have any other questions....
