88 Ranger 4x4, going to replace the oil pump...haynes says take off distributor, exhaust, starter, etc.
OK I've done that, I removed the 2 nuts on top of the motor mounts, (under the ex. manifolds) went to lift the motor from underneath with a jack, the whole truck lifts up! Not just the motor!
I don't have to remove the nuts on the bottom of the mounts do I? They're tucked way up in there and rusty, it would be a pain in the butt to get them out.
Thanks....
Whew..This is a toughie..Hmm..If there's more bolts on the mounts, they'll probably have to come out, depending on if they're bolted to the frame or the engine.I would think the ones that you took out of the top of mounts are the only ones.Do you not have an engine hoist?Exactly where were you placing the jack when you tried to pull it out?
You mentioned something about a Haynes Manual..I would suggest to follow every single step that they give on getting the engine out,if you aren't already. Are you sure that it's not your transmission that's holding your engine in place? Can you not get the pan off with the engine in the truck?
It's a 2.9, i have to lift the motor to get the pan off, there's not enough clearance between the pan and suspension to drop it, without lifting the motor Maybe it's just gotta have alittle pry action to come loose.
We did it! hoisted the engine up high enough to pull the pan out the front of the motor, and the bottom is all back together. Tomorrow I'll put the top of the motor back on, and she how she runs...
