Am I Crazy?

Maybe I should have mentioned 10 cylinders and 6.8L of displacement verses 8 cylinders and 6.2L of displacement. I could actually squeeze 15 MPG out of the Excursion. 65MPH over 500 mile trip.

Most seem to agree the 6.2 gets about a mile to the Gallon better empty than the 6.8. The 6.2 is going to rev a lot more than the v10, it makes it power up there and it's got 1 or 2(depending on your year ex) gears to work with. But the 6.2 does tow well.
It's the 3.73 vs 4.30 in the 6.2 I was commenting on. It's been discussed a bunch here lately. I have 3.73's, my dad has 4.30's. He gets better mileage around town, and his truck has a lot more pep than mine. I've managed to squeeze 17 mpg on the interstate empty, I don't think he will ever get that. But if you have larger tires or even the larger factory sizes, the 4.30 will do as good or better on the interstate. I averaged 9.5 on a 1600 mile trip, towing a 30' travel trailer scaled at 8500 total cargo.

Tough call.
I paid 18,900 cdn a year ago for my 2011 with 125,000 miles on it. Extremely good condition in and out with lots of 'extras' (like a unmounted set of winter alloys, custom tuning, exhaust, aftermarket rear stabilizer, 5100 bilsteins, levelled, slotted front rotors, etc, etc.). Incredible maintenance, I'm still using mobil1 filters supplied to me by the seller. Private sale with all paperwork supplied. Clean title, no bodywork.
CCLB lariat. Came to me just like this the 'smokey' pictures are the morning after I drove it home for eight hours.

Thanks. The headache rack has a bit of a funny story behind it, being the wheeler dealer I am.
So I called on this truck and left a message, like two hours later the guy called back and says I'm the fourth guy or something to have called but the first person who answered when he called back. So I start securing the deal and being a cheap azz I offer him 18,500 for it. To which he agrees but he's going to keep the headache rack, which he says he paid $500 for(remember I'm in Canada). So in the end we settle on his asking price of $18,900 with the headache rack.
Then when I come to pick it up, after the deal is done he says here you might as well take these 17" never mounted alloys as well as spare oil filters, spare drain plug, serpentine,....
The guy drove a hard bargain. Lol.
Couldn't have purchased from a better seller, older fellow who's place/other vehicles were just immaculate too. Like driveway so clean, I parked my wife's 2015 Mazda on the street when I showed up just so I didn't drip ac condensation on it. Lol.

Good trucks are hard to find, a breeze to sell. Bought my 2000 CCSB V10 5 speed manual new and sold it last fall. Had the original window sticker, service manuals also. Only had 134,000 miles. Took 4 days. The first offer was less than I was asking, and I had several full offers after that, but the first guy got it. Glad I sold it to him. Was a young couple with a 2 year old and needed the back seat and really seemed to appreciate the deal he got. I know the truck went to a good home and will be on the road for several more years.

The guy that sold me this truck should feel good about it too. I'm so fanatical about it I pull it off the road and store it in my heated shop all winter. I plan to have this truck for quite awhile.
I kept my '03 for winter/work as I just couldn't stand to sell it for what people would pay for it after nearly a decade of service its provided me. All my sig trucks are owned still, I can never bring myself to part with one. Lol.

Squisher, that is a great looking truck and great deal! What size tires did he fit on those stock 20's?
And OP, after doing months of searching myself, I wouldn't buy one with much over 200K miles. From what I've seen (TX/OK/LA/NM) there are ~160k mile trucks that will come and go for the same price as the ones with 200K-275K miles on them. You just have to be ready to buy when you see one and not get in a hurry. Nearing the 200k mark myself, electrical and engine seem to be steady but a lot of the small front end parts could use little work/replacements.
But, then again, mine was driven on unimproved/dirt Oklahoma field roads its whole life. Every truck with that many miles has a different history. If you're confident in the truck, go for it. Also, don't even consider the 5.4 after driving the V10.
Good luck!

I looked at the truck again today. Weather was finally decent. Warm and hot so I know the a/c works well. I checked and it has logged 10,440 hours and 4130 hours of idle. Honestly, you would think the truck has 69K on it, not 269K. It's quiet, plenty of pep. shifted through the gears up to 5, the fastest I could get it 40 and it did that when I let off. No weird stuff, plenty quiet. Squeaks and rattle from the cab though. Kind of expect that. New Cooper tires. Some scratches and some interior wear but that's minor and can be fixed cheap.

OP, only you can make the call on the truck you're looking at. Best of luck with whatever you end up with.
