So, the question is: Am I crazy to purchase a 2011 Ford F250 CC w/6.2L. Probably not, but with 270,000 miles. You wouldn't know it by looking at the truck.
There is a guy on here with over 300k on his 6.2. I would think you get some more miles out of it but I wouldn't get a truck with that many miles. Good luck!
How much? That will determine if your crazy or not. Multiple reports of these motors and transmissions going 350k+. But realize other things besides the motor and transmission will break. Suspension, steering, electrical, brake system, all of it could nickel and dime you to death. You may drive it 50k and never have a problem, no one can predict that for you. I would take it to a reputable mechanic to get a good inspection. Maintenance records would be a huge plus. I wouldn't buy it if I'm looking for something to do a bunch of traveling in. And that's any vehicle/engine combo with those kind of miles. And if your not paying cash, make sure it's something you can payoff rather quick. Could not imagine having a payment on something with that kind of miles. Nothing worse than having a payment due on a vehicle that needs some type of major repair. One reason late model used trucks are so high is because a truck like that in good shape with a bad motor, could still bring well over 5k for someone that knows how to part them out, maybe closer to 10k than 5k, just depending on the condition of body and interior.
So, would I buy it with that many miles, no. But if the price is right, I don't think your crazy.
Price is $10K. Extensive service history as it was owned by "very large" construction/pipeline company. Service history shows the spent $32K. That includes everything from detailing, repairs, GPS/electrical equipment install/removal, etc..... Few times there was emisions stuff, mostly brakes, shocks and items like that.
Are you able/willing to do any necessary work on it yourself? What would an equivalent new one cost? Is your time more or less valuable than the cost difference?
I paid 18,900 cdn a year ago for my 2011 with 125,000 miles on it. Extremely good condition in and out with lots of 'extras' (like a unmounted set of winter alloys, custom tuning, exhaust, aftermarket rear stabilizer, 5100 bilsteins, levelled, slotted front rotors, etc, etc.). Incredible maintenance, I'm still using mobil1 filters supplied to me by the seller. Private sale with all paperwork supplied. Clean title, no bodywork.
CCLB lariat. Came to me just like this the 'smokey' pictures are the morning after I drove it home for eight hours.
I've always felt my truck was an extremely good deal. I had the deal made within hours of the truck being listed. And lucky for me the seller was an honest soul as by the time I made it to him with the bank draft he'd been offered over twenty for it. He was aggressively approached by atleast one cross border 'dealer' looking to maximize on the U.S.A dollar and flip it down south.
But I've set myself up over the years now so that when I am looking for a new to me truck I'm not in a rush, and I have the money at hand. Bide my time and wait.....then pounce! Took me a good 4months of looking hard to find this one. All spring/summer last year.
With it being an xlt, and in good shape like you said, I feel that's a very fair price. At 10k, if the motor of tranny went bad, you could put a used one back in and still be ok. If this is a local run around vehicle, or work truck then you should be fine, but be prepared to keep it. Vehicles with miles that high are not easy sold. I nearly gave away a very nice good running Eddie Bauer 4x4 expedition with new tires. It had 255k. But I had 5 vehicles and it had been for sale for 3 months. Decided to cut my loses, gain a parking spot and save a few dollars on insurance.
My other choice is to buy one with 100K for $20-24K. I know the miles are high and it is/was a concern. I drove the truck and it ran better than the 2008/2009 ones I was looking at and they had the 5.4L. They all had 150-180K for miles.
The 6.2 is a big step up from a 5.4. But at that mileage expect to have the possibility of some expensive repairs. As long as you keep that in mind going in, it's a cheap in to the newer chassis.
I have a 2001 Excursion with the V10 so I'm not to worried about mileage. I expect to get the same if not a little better. Going from 4:30 axles to a 3:73 should help. There are 4 pages of service records.
