Okay guys, here is my next thing. Anyone ever hear of cutting down a bed and making it into a flatbed. My dream has been to put the Goldwing and sidecar on the back when traveling but it is clear I cannot get the rig past the smaller tailgate opening. I even built a box to create a floor at wheel well height. I need a flatbed but want to keep the classic lines of the truck. Will the sides, cut down, be able to support a floor? Will the boxes construction lend itself to the job. I am sure other questions need to be asked to figure all the details. Thoughts?
Also register over at weldingweb and ask in the mechanic's park forum. Just put on your thick skin and take answers with a grin, some of those guys are pretty hard on newbies. Heck they're hard on everyone. But they know their stuff.
