hey guys im lookin to buy a ford f-250 4x4, probably like a '92-'94. i believe this would be the best way to go because the gearing is better than a f-150...correct? also im working with a bigger engine. so my question is what is the best way to go with this project? what all do i need to lift it 4-6 in and slap some 33-35s on it. i dont know what the best brands and so forth are. please keep in mind that im a senior in high school, so im looking for reasonable prices...im workin my butt off to afford all this as it is haha. any input is appreciated!
also, if anyone could explain to me the gearing in the f-250s
and if ill need to get a locker or whatever...i dont know much about gearing obviously...
in the year Trucks you stated for about the same price range I'd step up to the F350 Just for the D60's up front. Since ya plan on lifting your truck and Adding bigger tires ya might as well go ahead and get the pretty much built proof drivetrain from the start. As for gearing the F250/350's have from a range of 3.55 to 4.10 stock. If you find one with 4.10's You'll be good to go for 35" tires. As for the lift there are alot of good lift makers on the market they each have there pros and cons for what ya plan to do with it. You can never go wrong by adding a good locker to your truck
I second the F-350 idea. The TTB that comes in the F-150s and F-250's is not the best thing to lift. It's ok, but not the best. The F-350 will handle that lift and tires with no problems.
Six inches is a lot of lift and side problems for TTB. I second (fourth) the idea of just buying a F-350 with leaf springs. The lift kit for that will be MUCH cheaper.
thanks alot fellers, i think ill shoot for the 350. ive been searching a bit already and most i see are diesals. id love to have a diesal, but im not sure of what im dealin with. im guessin ive got more power with one, and from what i hear gas is better on yer wallet. i know ive bothered yall enough already but if anyone could tell me the power advantages between gas and diesal id be much appreciated. thanks for the input guys especially txquadhunter! also i hear you can fit 33s on a 250 or 350 with no lift! true?? thanks

i have a friend whith a 94 350 diesle and its a great truck, wouldnt mind having one myself. As far as tire sizes the 80-96 body styl of 150,250 and 350 will all do the 33" tires stock. This is what i have done and i just barly rub on my radius arms whith swampers. BFGs probly wont rub at all.
diesels dont have as much horses fore a given displacement, but spit out a ton more torque, and in a 350, it will get MUCH better gas mileage, which your senior budget will allow (I know,im just a junior)
I agree with what they said on the motor/mileage wise on the 7.3's. The main question is do you plan to do quite a bit of offroading is places with bottomless grounds? If so the diesel can hurt you here by the extra added weight on the frontend to drop you out of site in this type of mud. where the gas will keep ya a much lighter footprint to keep you up on top. If you plan on spinning high RPM's the diesel will fall short compared to the gas rigs. so just weight your pros and cons on what your main plan for the truck then findthe one that best suits your needs.
I have that problem with the disappearing front end with my truck, do you think it's because of the diesel? That is why I'm building a gas maybe it will evenly disappear. Dam high school budget has got me too.
My diesel sinks its way in and pulls itself out. Power vs weight.... POWER! Price is a big factor in getting a diesel ($12000-$15000 roughly). I had some help from my dad (payed for half) in buying my truck, and it was about $12000 if I remember correctly (I do). If you have a front end bumper replacement (which will sink you down in the mud even faster) you can fir 38" with no trimming (If youre not worried about axle flex, and I wouldn't with five leaf springs in the front)
