I need the best gearing info for my ford9" and dana 44 reverse rotation gears. I have 33's and a 6"(soon enough) and maybe someday 35's but not for a couple of years. I have an SROD trans w/4th OD and might be swapping in a ZF 5spd. I want the best gear combo for highway, but also snow and trails. I dont climb to much stuff besides some steep hills somtimes. The power comes from a ford 300six and a 208 trans case.
see, ive been told that the setup that i have now would be fine, however, others say tha it wont work. So i can either get 3.75 for the rear and keep the 3.73 or go out and buy 4.11's for the rear and 4.09 for up front
Maybe I did not understand the question. Both front and rear need to be the same or very close, as you put, 4.11 and 4.09. 3.73 will work, but in my opinion, with the I6, 4.10s or close to it would be best with an OD transmission. With a 1.1 last gear and 3.73 maybe fine, but with a .7x OD and 3.73s you will be downshifting a lot. At least with the I6 you will be closer to it's RPM band than with a V8.
I see this is an old post but I'm new here and could use some help. That is if anyone sees this. I have a 1979 f100 with a 1995 302 from a mustang converted to 4 barrel carb cheap summit stage2 intake comp roller rockers and long tube hooker headers that's all for engine upgrades as it sits. I have my original c4 it's was rebuilt with shift kit and c6 vacuum parts and a 2600 stall tc. Now that you know what I have up front my question is. I want better off the line but still not kill my truck on the highway what gears are comfortable at highway speeds? I'm pretty sure my 9" has original 2.75's. Another thing is I don't know if I should be happy or not but if I floor my truck as it is it will do 55-60 mph before shifting to second gear that being said before I changed anything this truck was 100% stock and would reach 55-60 mph before shifting to second. Is this normal due to the rear gearing and long geared c4 of this truck? Also want to say that's not me shifting it like that it does this on its own just curious. Main thing is I would like it to be better from a dig rather than really long gears. I do tow with this not much but I also have a slide in camper. It's a complete dog with the camper on it. Thanks in advance!!
I'm running 31 as I don't have a spare set of 235-70-15 that will be going on when I purchase all new. I wasn't sure if 3.50's would be to much but I just might start there. Thanks for getting back to me.
