power tailgate lock
Hell Rebel, I was 77 years old when I did it. I know you can.
Drill a small hole in the floor under the door. there are several wires there. I went under the passenger front door, for some reason. Maybe to get it to open on one click instead of 2. There is a wiring diagram floating around somewhere. I made my last wire splice at the actuator, as it will work either way. one wire pulls and one wire pushes, so you have to wire it the way you need it. The actuator pulls so little current, your electrical system will not know it is there. And it is only on for a second.
Good Luck

Thanks for the encouragement Hammer. I would imagine there's also less wiring under the passenger door than the drivers door. The LF door is where the main switches are for the power locks, the power windows, etc. I could probably source a decent used lock actuator on Craigslist, eBay, or possibly Amazon. There is a salvage yard about an hour from me that advertises on Craigslist all the time... What other supplies did you have to buy: such as bulk wire, wire loom, connectors, etc?
Have you encountered any reliability problems with the actuator not working when it should, or locking/unlocking repeatedly? How long has it been in the truck?

I already had some wire and connectors on hand. I have a Camping trailer, so I keep a lot of wire and fuses. Go for it. You will be surprised at how easy it is. But, I have a 4 door and there is a lot of wire under the door sill.
I've put the pop-n-lock on all my trucks. My dad is still driving the 2001 sport and the lock works great. It's an easy install. I don't even bother with a wiring diagram. I just pop off the passenger door panel, follow the lock wires down to the rocker and splice it in.
