1997 power Window Problem

I got a 1997 Extended Crew Cab Lariat. All of a sudden my power window on the driver side has stopped working. Worked just fine the night before. Now all I get is a CLICK at the relay. The passenger works just fine. Any ideas?

Hi Tim and welcome to FTE

The click means that the switch is probably ok. I'd bet your window motor has died and will need to be replaced. Before you do that though make sure that you have power to it in case you have a broken wire or something. You'll have to remove the door panel to get at the connector and check for power with a test light while working the switch.

How hard is it to remove the motor on this model year truck? I've read some stories about having to drill to reach bolt heads..etc. but wasn't sure what model they were referring to.

Up in the FAQ's at the top of the page is info on removing your door panel. Once that is off you'll see the 3 dimples you need to drill out to remove the screws that hold the motor on. The manual says to use a 3/4" hole saw but I've managed to just use a 1/2" drill and a thinner socket.

Here's a twist. The window works at night or after a rain storm.

Sounds like a gem problem... The windshield leaks onto and into the gem on the back of the fuse block causing all sorts of weird electrical problems with wipers, windows, etc..
