2000 Ford Excursion electrical issues

I have a 2000 Ford Excursion with 225K+ miles.

Recently the old gal has ran into a few issues, one that is incredibly frustrating. I try to start it and it dies. EVERYTHING. I've had it at the shop off and on for the better part of two weeks and the closest thing to a problem is there is 12 volts at the engine, and starter showing it isn't properly grounded somewhere.

I'm honestly at my wits end. Does anyone have any thoughts?

One more point, I just had the key switch replaced because the key was having increasing trouble turning in the ignition.

As my Excursion sits because there still hasn't been a solution found, I have noticed that there is a relay (maybe?) In the fuse panel under the dash that had been clicking and the theft light flashing quickly.

I assume that is to do with the security in the vehicle? It usually does this when the mechanic attempts to find the voltage at the starter.

When I insert the key in the ignition the Ex still doesn't respond, but the clicking will cease and the light will go out and all will be dead again.

Fellas I really am at a loss and this is my primary vehicle. I desperately need help.

Your symptoms are typically due to a bad battery connection or cable.

You need a technician who knows how to do voltage drop testing. The procedure isn't hard at all, you can find plenty of tutorials on the 'net.

Ok, I'll look that up tonight and start tracing all the wiring I can find.

Thanks, will let you know how it goes.

I watched the videos you mentioned and I started under the hood last night and traced all my wiring and found two lose connections. They weren't completely loosened but loose enough that they did cause issues.

I cleaned around them and reconnected and the Ex fired right up and as of now is still running and starting.

Thanks guys!
