Turning the key isnt getting the job done now. I can jump the solenoid on right fender and fires right up. No power to solenoid when key is in start. I made sure the ignition switch was not falling apart, and adjusted.

The neutral safety switch is new and adjusted. I need to back track to find out where power is lost.

I will unplug the NSS to confirm power is getting to it and work up to steering column.

Is there anything I might be overlooking? Or a simple check without a spare set of hands?

 

Found the EVTM on Garys site that covers 86 diesels. So it will be easy enough to trace wires to where the problem is.

 

if bypassing the nss does not work, i would suspect the ignition actuator.
when turning the key to start, do you feel a slight resistance from the spring, and does it jump back ot run when key is released from start?

 

I bypassed the nss and all is well. The new one that previous owner had changed was a no name universal with harness an extra 4 feet long. This cheaply made unit popped apart when contacts made up.
