6.0 has had dummy plugs and stand pipes replaced and still has a long crank when cold. The kicker is that it doesn't happen when the truck is parked nose up in the driveway. It only happens if the truck is level or back into the driveway. I suspect it's that the HPOP is losing prime from somewhere. Has anybody else had this problem?
More info plz. Is this a continuation from another post?
What model? 03 and 04 could be the hpop. Later and it could be the hpop STC. Because you've done SP and DP, must be a later model (although the 04 had SP and DP... They are rarely an issue).
Cold start issues are normally not hpop leak related.
Look first at glow plugs, verify FICM voltages, then stiction.
05 models rarely have bad individual glow plug problems. Almost always the module if there are glow plug problems. Unless I am badly mistaken, glow plug issues normally give you a fault code.
Low FICM voltage and stiction do not give you fault codes.
FICM voltage is good. I replaced it with a Bulletproof upgrade a couple of years ago. How does one go about checking stiction? The only codes I have are for a fuel level data error.
I just found the solution to this seemingly same issue. Replaced dummy plugs, stand pipes etc. when I did head gaskets and head work as well as BulletProof upgrades. When I installed the passenger side dummy plug the split nylon washer on the lower section of the dummy plug did not line up which left a tiny opening that let the oil bleed out of the fuel (oil) rail. 2007 model year.
Ran like a top but started like a slug. Oil pressure would start at virtually 0 then start to build rather slowly, then build more rapidly to 500 psi plus and it was off to the races. Maybe a 10-15 sec crank.
You need a way to read hpo pressure. If you have an Android device, I'd spend $24 and get torque pro with a Bluetooth reader. Best money you'll spend on the truck. Only then can you rule out your hpo system.
A slow leak down may be occuring with the different behavior pointed up vs down.
