What are the flimsy plastic shrouds attached to the radiator sides called? The two on my truck are torn & damaged and coming away from the plastic push pins that hold them in place.
Is it ok to remove them completely or will doing that have an effect on engine cooling?
They help channel air into radiator - you probably won't miss them for most driving conditions, but if you're towing or hauling heavy on a hot day they probably do make a difference in your operating temperatures.
As RightWing said they are called radiator air deflectors. It looks like the part numbers are BC3Z8311A for the LH/drivers side and BC3Z8310A for the RH/passengers side. I hope that helps out.
I will remove the damaged deflectors and will monitor engine coolant temperature via dash command. I am reluctant to replace as the material used to manufacture them seems of poor quality and not up to the job.
It's summer here in the UK - 6l-63 degrees this week, so no problem with hot weather and our travel trailer is only 8000 lbs.
