YEEOOOOW!!!! You got a front row seat on Mr Toad's Wild Ride now. Not sure where you are headed with this project but wherever it is it will be some new frontier. Good luck!
You my friend are a brave man I have 30+ years of autobody and I'm not sure that I would be comfortable with that much modification . Is moving the firewall ahead going to leave engine room , and are you planning on lengthening the frame to accommodate the longer cab ?
Holy smokes that looks like a $10K frame and suspension that was left out in the rain for years! Must be nice to have money, that frame cost more than my whole truck #2 build.
i did spend a few days looking at everything what i wanted to do
i installed a LS3with a 6 speed got about 5" from the radiator fan motor to the fan belts so i plan to move the cab back 3" then mod the front fenders wheel opening so the wheel will be in the center of the finder not all the why in the rear
when I'm done with the cab i'll add 7" to the rear frame
I'm 6'5" 275lb if i plan to enjoy this thing i need room :-)
I have and LT1 T56 in both of my F1s with the cab in the stock location with minimal firewall trimming for the transmission. I have not measured my LS engines but they cant be that much longer than an LT1? This is with the cab in the stock location, tons of room. Isnt your truck even bigger?
ya i got the truck 3 months ago it was in Cal. 2011 sitting in a shop it look worse then what it is and yes the guy spent 18K on the frame, rearend and brakes ran out of money
This project reminds me of a 50 Mercury that I started years ago. I had a 2002 LS6 and a 92 C4 ZR1 front clip and a C4 IRS with bags all around. This pic shows the clip and engine/trans installed...when I set the engine back far enough to clear the R&P I found that I had to tub the firewall. One thing lead to another and soon it all was in the scrap heap. They don't call it the "bleeding edge" for nothing...good luck with your build it looks like you have to tools and skills to bring it all together
not sure on the lt1 but on the LS's theres a few different water pumps truck are very long
the caddy and vet is very short and the belts are also very close to the motor
sorry to hear about your 50 Mercury with the big 10 frame its so tall and stiff with the motor hitting the stock firewall i don't need a tunnel or hump with my new wall i will need a little hump for the bell housing the cab mounts is also rigged mounting the cab where i need will not be an issue
the only issue i'm having is the 6l80e trans is so tall and long making it fit was a pain
i found a lot more rust so i got rid of the rust and bad steel in the front and rear passenger side of the cab now I'm rebuilding the mounting plates also i put the two hafts temporary back and ill temp mount the stock door so i can make sure I'm still inline and square before i weld everything in place then i'll do the driver side the same way before i'll do the stretch
i finally had a little time to work on the truck got rid all the rust and rebuild the front and rear lower cab now I'm getting ready to stretch the doors
i also temp mount the motor with the radiator at the stock location theres almost 5" from the fan to the front pulley so moving the cab back 3" and firewall forward 2" will be no problem i can even move the radiator forward 1-2" easily with little mods if need be
