Thanks, will try that this morning. I do have a new GPR coming so hopefully this it it.

I assume the GPR isn't providing a proper ground if this is the issue? I then have to assume that the code reader is somehow bypassing this when it is plugged it?

I have started and ran my truck without a GPR.

Why connect them together? I just pulled them off the GPR and taped them up individually.

Connecting the two small wires creates a direct short from the fuse #22 circuit to ground, at least during the time the PCM would be energizing the GPR.

So better to just disconnect them? We put them together, no change, no blown fuses.

Still puzzled why it starts normally with the code reader plugged in but dies when it is removed.

What does the code reader do/bypass that would cause this?

It won't start if the circuit is not complete, you won't get a WTS light either.

well we found it, the ground at the ebrake mechanism wasn't solid. Truck starts and runs fine without the code reader in.

Thanks for all the ideas guys!

Mine have been taped individually apart for a thousand miles now. When I was on the way to RRE and had problems (you might have read it) Bill suggested I tape them apart. They will stay that way until mid Oct when I get back to AZ for the winter when at that time I will put on a new GPR and test the PCM and IDM that I replaced to try and figure out what happened. The problems started with a CPS code and ended with a CPS. My GPR MIGHT have shorted out sending a ground thru the PCM and IDM, IDK and probably will never know.
