Decided I want to be able to air down my tires for traction, after a few stressful moments recently, on a pebbly beach with the slide-in camper on board... So now I'm looking for any personal recommendations on 12v portable Air Compressors which can get a Truck tire back up to 75/80 PSI without melting, and before the next ice age. All the Ads say nice things about their respective products, but my experience has been that 12v compressors generally make a lot of noise, are on a very light duty cycle (10 minutes max), and are not very effective. If you've found one that really works, and is affordable, I'd love to hear about it. Thanks for any input!
When comparing, be aware that advertised max PSI for a compressor is not necessarily a good indication of how it might air up a large truck tire to 75 lbs or so. It is SCFM that indicates the volume of air it puts out. Chances are that if the promotional information doesn't provide it, the compressor does not put out enough to inflate your tires acceptably.
Thanks for the useful responses! I guess "affordable" is in the eye of the beholder :-) I was hoping for something viable for < $150, but maybe that's unrealistic...

I go by the "buy once, cry once" theory. you really do get what you pay for with portable air compressors. I got the viair 450p and it's beast.
I got twin Viairs and a 5 gallon tank mounted in mine. I also got air bags and a train horn installed so needed lots of air. Even these take time to air up truck tires through 1/4" hose. But it will also run a 1/2 impact to change a tire.
