replaced rear drums and shoes of my 57 f100. I have to force the drum on but then I can't spin the drum. The adjuster is all the way in. old drum also goes on tight. new drum goes on easy over old shoes and spins freely. I lined up the new and old shoes and they are the same except the new shoes have over 1/8" more material.
My question is should I cut the new drum to fit over the new shoes? Will have to remove alot. Am I missing something.
^^^ That, or maybe have the old shoes re-lined at a truck or clutch shop, some people speak highly of Kevlar linings, haven't tried those.
But they can hook you up reasonable. Some people recommend turning new drums, a light face cut just to ensure they are absolutely true. Some of the stuff coming overseas may not be the best, or has been stored improperly/dropped. But I sure wouldn't want to cut them down just to make the linings fit. New drums means highest pedal height.
I took the shoes back to the shop were i bought them and Bob replaced them with a different set. Now the drums go on easy. Still have to install Ebrake cable and adjust them.
