I'm in the process of trying to figure out what flexplate I can use. Ok well I have a 1986 351w with a c6 bolted to it. I'm trying to figure out what flexplate I need or can use to mate the 351w to a FMX transmission. Also can I use the engine block plate or do I need to find one also to use with FMX?
I have never tried what you want to do. However first make sure the holes in the plate line up with the FMX converter. If so, check that the converter nose is compatible with the crankshaft center bore. Re use the block plate, then try to mate the engine and see if the converter has about 3/8"-1/2" gap between the flywheel. If all this lines up it should work. Good luck

Yes. Flexplates are for the engine, not the transmission.
I understand that but there are also different offset flexplates correct? Also when you look up that flexplate part number it says it's for a c6 transmission. So the existing flexplate that's on the engine bolted up to the c6 will work with the FMX. Sorry if I'm not understanding all this.

Pic: Scroll down to 6375: Here are the 1980/89 D1ZZ-6375-A applications.
The only specific C6 is 1981 E100/350 which I didn't list, as it was irrelevant for your application.
So, it was used with 351W C6, AOD and beginning in 1989, with E4OD
The only trucks that used an FMX were 1973/77 F350's with 300 I-6. No other F100/350, Bronco or Econoline used the FMX
It was mainly used in 1969/89 FoMoCo passenger cars.
Just 302. 351 remained at 28oz throughout its life.
....and only the H.O. (High Output) 5.0L engines had the same firing order as the 351W/5.8L engines (1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8) vs. the non-H.O. 5.0L engines (as well as 289s/older 302s) firing order of 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8.

I'm sorry but I'm so confused. I just don't wanna pull apart the vehicle to swap the engine to find out the flexplate I have which is the part number you suggested will not work with the FMX transmission I'm trying to bolt it up to. Sorry if I'm getting annoying about this I just want to make sure it will work before I do it.
Don't over complicate things for yourself. Ford was pretty good about keeping things normal and standard. Some variations of course, but every part wasn't a one-off special production...
