question for the gurus

The 76 F250 Ranger XLT camper special that I bought for a parts truck has dual tanks. The rear tank filler neck is recessed into the bed, but the front one just has a hole cut flush into the bed. And I have seen several others like this. Is it a dealer installed tank? Also noticed there is no tank selector solenoid between the tanks like on my 78 that I am trying to restore?

Hard to tell from your description. I could be factory or it could be aftermarket.
If it's factory there should be a switch on the right side of the HVAC control panel to switch the tanks. If aftermarket, there would probably be a manual valve by the driver to switch the tanks.

has the selector switch next to the HVAC, just like my 78. But I don't see the actual solenoid between the tanks. My biggest question is why one inset and one flush mount filler neck? I have a pic of the truck on here in another thread, but not smart enough to bring it here.

I'm assuming here, your truck's rear filler is the round one that is not behind a door, correct? In other words, your bed is correct for your truck and not a later 77-up bed.
If so, from the factory, the auxiliary filler neck's hole was flush, it was not recessed like the rear filler.
To back that up, in the Ford parts catalog, it says nothing about with or without dual tanks on the 73-76 driver's side bed quarter panels. On the 77-79, where the fillers were behind the access door, it specifies with single tank and with dual tanks.

Thanks Mike, that is exactly how it is. Truck is all original, just seemed weird to me to have one filler different than the other.

Yeah, it looks a little "aftermarket". Ford didn't get it looking right until the '77 model.

I bought this truck basically to cut the roof panel off. If anyone close by needs any parts, let me know. Body is pretty much shot(other than roof) But it has a 390 with factory air and everything under the hood is 100% intact.

1975/79 F100/350 with factory installed dual fuel tanks has an electric fuel tank selector valve & solenoid assy. mounted on the cross member.

The switch in the heater control panel switches the tanks and the dash fuel gauge from one tank to the other.

1973/76 Stylesides have exposed fuel caps, 1977/79 Stylesides have fuel doors.

I found the electric solenoid/fuel selector valve today. Its under the cab on the drivers side and appears to be all original?

That's what it should be. 73-74 versions used a manual selector valve by the driver. In 75 Ford switch to all electric.
