Flareside bed repair

Hey all, since getting my truck home I have pulled the flareside bed off and started dis-assembly. I replaced the fuel tank, and fuel pump assembly. While the bed is off I painted the frame with POR15. I have ordered a whole bunch of part from NPD to rebuild the bed and they should be here anytime. The bottom flange around the bed sides has rusted out where the bolt holes are for bolting the bed sides to the floor. Anybody have any tricks or tips to remedy this? Not making a show truck so it doesn't have to be super pretty. I was thinking of using a large diameter stainless steel washer under the bolt heads and trim them where needed to fit up against the side of the bed. I ordered all stainless hardware so this won't stick out more than the hardware already will. Thoughts???

First welcome to the forum.
Please document your flare side bed rebuild as I am sure it will help others (me) to rebuild theirs.
When I bought my truck little did I know the bed was a mess of parts. Only the front & sides were stock every thing else was hacked - no cross braces or stock wood.

My sides do have a little rust at that same flange, only a quick look when I took the truck apart. When the time comes if it is so bad there is not any thing to bolt to I will weld in metal.

Now if the whole "lip" is gone I will bend sheet metal in a 90* wide enough to put bolts thru and to go up the side(s) some to weld it. If you had access to body panel glue you could use that to join the "lip" to the sides.

Now you are saying "I don't have a welder or the glue what do I do"?
If your side panels are less fenders you can take them to a few body shops to see what they charge to put the lips on the panels. They would not need to do full welds just a number of stitches on both side of the lip. You could then drill new holes and finish it off (por15?) before you bolted them back on the truck.
I would think it would not be to much and even less if you can give them the lips to go on this way they would not have to make them.
