You can easily price out a KR higher than a Platinum. I know I did as mine has an MSRP of 78,8xx and you can get a platinum well under this. While I think the platinum has some nice touches like better looking horizontal grill slats and lighted door sills the KR seat colors look better to me and just as upscale. Some would also argue that painted bumpers look cheap or plastic vs. chrome bumpers. Personal preference all the way around but both are on par IMO.
My Platinum is over 80, but piece mealing or ala cart optioning might make the KR more. Packages are always a better deal in the long end.
View Fords SD build site, the Platinum is clearly the last on the list with entry levels first up. It's the way to market your line up, and GMs and other Mfgrs are the exact same way.
And I just called my sales rep wondering about any updates on my delivery date. In conversation I asked to confirm this, he said the Platinum trim is the highest FORD has available to date. He also joked (I think?) and said a Titanium would be out next year and he's looking forward to my upgrade. Lol, well I think anyways but ya never know!
They are practically giving away the King Ranch trucks - now if I got the chrome package, it would have been expensive.
Seriously, we got the King Ranch because it can have the active motion seats like the Platinum, but without the extra seams that made them uncomfortable for my wife. I like the 2 tone as well.

Lmao, any wording I guess will kinda make it like my smart phone... outdated as soon as you get it!
^ and I hear ya on seat or stitching to your liking as a contributor to Your trim selection. I also see/hear (here) about a lot of lower level truck owners wanting the Platinum front grill. For me, I kinda was kinda digging this, not sure that was my only tip to the Platinum, however for me?, the wifey put the hammer down, so Platinum it was!
I noticed that the US price is getting close to the Canadian price by what I see here. I also noticed that some things are also standard for us like the supplemental heater and heated rear seats. I tried to option out a KR to what I wanted and it was more than the Platinum I ordered, and that did not include the power running boards on the KR.

I optioned out a Lariat Ultamite and it was more then the Platinum without ultimate
I didn't want the moonroof or lane assist, so Platinum it was!
To the OP.
Sit in both those seats. I can't go for more then an hour in my massage Platinum seats. My back is stinging and I have pain shooting down my legs.
Never had this in any other truck.
It's 100% the seat. Perhaps the King Ranch with out the massaging is better.
Something to think about.

Before 2017, you could only get the heated wheel in the Platinum.
I don't think there are any Platinum exclusive features now besides the grill and tailgate applique and the two-tone seats, as well as the lighted door sills.
I never cared fro the "platinum" words on the side of the box, but I do like the grill and the seats. I miss the better seats in the previous gen, though.

Jason....the seats in the Platinum are not two-tone. There are no two-tone seats currently available in any of the trim levels I believe. This would be a two tone seat. I don't think the stripe counts as "two-tone"...lol

Both the black and brunello seats in the Platinum have a silver stripe in the center. I really disliked the KR seats when I first saw them, but realized it was because of the poor CRI lights at the dealer when looking at the truck in the night time.
Sitting in the XLT, Lariat, KR and Platinum, personally, my wife and I found the seat comfort in the following order:
1. Cloth bucket in the XLT - felt like a living room couch - very nice
2. King Ranch Ultimate (didn't try the standard seats)
3. Lariat
4. Platinum - Firm bottom coupled with the extra stitching wasn't comfortable for either one of us after several minutes.
Seat comfort differs for different people. The most important thing to realize is that the different trim lines have very different feeling seats. I strongly recommend trying the seats (1/2 hour of seat time at least) before settling on which truck.
