I favor a shroud so long as you space your fan into the "sweet" spot. I found one from NPD that fits my '65. I believe the one I got was for a '67. The situation where they help is when you've went from high way speed to stop and go. Also helps to have over drive pulleys...in other words have a crank pulley about an inch bigger in diameter than the pump pulley.

2x on verifying your ignition timing.

I used mine for several years to commute to work when I lived in Austin. Trust me, it gets plenty hot and there's more stop and go than I cared for. I still run the original radiator, no shroud, and no issues ever.

I run 2000 Ford Contour electric fans on my 460 and have an aluminum rad and it never goes past 180*. I love my electric fans they work great, even when your sitting they keep the air moving and the engine right where it needs to be.
