I have a 2006 Ford F350 and I recently bought a Wifi OBD2 Dongle to pair up with Dash Command on an iPhone. My truck is base model and doesn't display things like fuel mileage, plus I like having access to engine & tranny info, as I use it to haul my RV.
So basically, I want to use the dongle and iPhone as a semi-permanent installation.
The dongle uses power when plugged in (engine off). I'm not sure how much, but I don't want to find out by having the battery die, so I've been taking it out and plugging it back in every time.
My truck also has the Ford upfitter switches that are currently unused.
So I was thinking that I could take the power supply to the OBD2 harness and run it though one of the switches, which would allow me to cut the power to the dongle via an existing switch.
Th switches are pre-wired for their own power from the fuse box. You will have to get in there and modify the harness to the upfitter switches if all you want is a raw switch.
