1994 e150 5.0 4r70w weird shift problem
hi, here goes, when driving normaly at about quarter throttle all shifts are fine, anything at half throttle or above shifting from 1-2 or 2-3 the motor revs up almost like the throttle is hanging sounds like ur hitting the rev limiter, u have to actually left off the gas for the trans to shift. same goes for the 3-2 or 2-1 downshift if u half throttle to downshift going up a steep incline the motor revs up very annoying, the 3-4 and 4-3 shift work great, any advice or suggestions? , thanks...rob

I've visited 3 tranny shops in 3 days to check out same problem with my AR70. All 3 shops gave me the same answer... Changing fluid will make it worse, needs overhaul and torque converter, !400-1800 bucks. One guy wouldn't give me a firm estimate untill the tranny was disassembled but then I would have been stuck at his shop. I'm gonna have one of them put in a Transgo shift kit during the rebuild. Good luck

How long since the tranny has been serviced?? Before you take it to a shop do yourself a favor and spend a few bucks and change the filter and fluid, including the toeque converter.
It will take 12 quarts of MERCON fluid, provided you drain the converter.
Then drive it for a while, and if your trouble is still there take it to a reputable local trans. specialist, not the "beep-beep" people, for diagnoses.

Ya, that's what I'd like to do but it was serviced several months ago at 125K. that's when it started slipping. Now slips when taking off and I'm lucky to get up a hill unless it"s in 3rd. Tranny shops have always tried to sell me on the complete rebuild including Ford dealer 'cept for ONCE when a shop told me "just a modulator valve" on a C6. My AR70 supposedly rebuilt 50K ago. I asked the shops this time if I could just drain the TC and fluid but they said "make it worse". Is this a scam? Have seen the TSB on the TC and this one should have been replaced last time (don't know).
