Arrgh...

Here's what I've done and what I intend to do. Feel free to add things to the list that might help.
Done:
1. Checked for codes - nothing other than the pesky 33 EGR code I've been piddling with since getting the engine in.
2. Swapped Ignition modules & coil (simply because I had spares handy)
3. Checked distributor to ensure that the rotor was pointing where it should be and moves with the engine.
4. Tach is receiving signal, but am not getting enough spark to trigger the inductive tach on my automotive multimeter. This makes me think there's an issue in the ignition somewhere.
Needs to be checked:
1. Check fuel pressure. In-tank pumps were changed last summer, but the high pressure pump is probably original to the truck. The fuel pressure regulator could also have failed and is relieving the pressure at the rail. The pumps are cycling with the ignition switch like they should, but that means nothing if there isn't enough pressure.
2. Dig through my manuals to determine how to test each component along the paths of injection & ignition looking for failed components. The only components that haven't already been replaced along the way is the electronics in the distributor and the throttle position sensor.
3. If nothing shows up there - then I need to entertain the notion that the valve timing may have jumped a tooth and thrown everything off.
Alright - since there's not much I can do until I research through the manuals for test procedures, I better get to hitting the books.
After about 6-8 hours of diagnostics, it turns out the PIP sensor suffered catastrophic failure. No code was thrown because it appeared that the engine was simply shut off.
New distributor is sitting on the counter to be installed tomorrow after work.

Recommend strongly getting a Motorcraft PIP & putting it in your original, then carry it.
