Antenna base cover

Can anyone tell me if the antenna base cover for the 1967-1972 generation trucks is the same for the 1973-1979 trucks?

Not the same.
1967/72's have an airfoil (triangular shaped) antenna, 1973/79 antenna is round.

Ford did not sell the bases by themselves, but the antenna masts were available by themselves.

Bill, I had to look up the definition of air foil. Good way of describing the surface of the antenna base. The actual shape is rectangular. I recall coming across a 1973 250 that had a rectangular air foil shaped base and that is why I posted the question. Probably someone replaced the antenna at some point.

ND is describing the antenna itself, not the base. It's also an interesting little feature.

I am bit confused. Excuse me for my naivete.

Is there a difference between the antenna base cover between the 67-72 generation trucks compared to the 73-79 trucks? I am not concerned about the actual antenna mast. I am asking about the base/cover that I photographed in post 3.

I have looked at some photos of 73-79 trucks and the base is rectangular on the ones that I have seen?

I'm sure someone here knows better, but the 67-73 cowl is almost identical to the 73-79, so the antenna bases could be interchangeable. All the photos I'm seeing suggest they are.

They are interchangeable for the most part. Unless you're doing a concours restoration with the correct drips in the paint and chalk marks on the firewall and frame, no one would notice. The early antenna's themselves are made in an airfoil shape instead of a round antenna. Mine came to me with a round ball base and a bent up telescoping antenna, in a hole made by drilling multiple holes and punching out the middle. I'm guessing that was not OEM.

Thanks guys -- that was my thought as well. I learned something about the actual antenna. Good stuff.

Bill, please bear with me for a moment. I saw an old thread and want to get some clarity here. You commented on the airfoil antenna in the following thread:

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...o-antenna.html

In pertinent part, you stated the following about antennas from the 73-79 generation:

F100/350 antenna's as factory installed ~ US only.

1973/77 = C8ZZ-18813-B .. "Airfoil" type (3 sided mast) Same as 1968 Mustang ('65/67 Mustangs have a different antenna with a round base and mast)

Replacement mast: C6AZ-18A886-A

It may have been awhile since you looked up antenna stuff. Did you err when you said that the 67-72 truck have the airfoil? Or, does the 1973-1977 have the airfoil mast as you indicated in the old thread with the change being to the 1978 and 1979 model years (changed over to a round mast)?

If I can weed through this stuff... What I think is cool is the airfoil design was used on 68 Mustang and the same antenna was brought back 5 years later to be used on the Ford trucks in 1973 through 1977.

Further clarity is greatly appreciated. I recently found a 1974 F350 with what I believe is an airfoil mast. You guys will know better since I have never seen one. The base was rectangular. Now I know why I thought I had seen round antennas (mast) with rectangular base in the 73-79 generation trucks--they were probably installed on 78-79 trucks or possibly aftermarket or dealer installed . I'll see if I can post a picture or two of what I believe may be the correct antenna for 1973-1977 Ford trucks and the 1968 Mustang (Simply cool). Ford is a funny company when it came to parts.

This post was typed 1/2/2008, had nothing to do with 1967/72's.

It may have been awhile since you looked up antenna stuff. Did you err when you said that the 67-72 truck have the airfoil? NO!
Both my 1968 F250 Ranger & 1971 F100 Ranger XLT had airfoil antenna's. I bought both of these trucks new, plus I passed out these antenna's and masts to mechanics at the back parts counter.

The airfoil antenna is C6AZ-18813-E = 1966 Fairlane / 1966/68 Galaxie/LTD / 1967/72 F100/350.

The airfoil antenna mast is C6AZ-18A886-A

Pic: Scroll down to 18A886 .. Here's the only parts catalog reference (from the car parts catalog) that lists this mast as an airfoil.

The thing is, FoMoCo is infamous for replacing/updating part numbers more often then women change their minds!

1973: Ford replaced the C6AZ-18813-E airfoil antenna with D3AZ-18813-B (round w/rectangular base) for use as a "service part replacement."

There is a lot of information here and I am more confused than ever.

The photo that I posted in Post 10, is that of an airfoil antenna? If so, was it intended for a 1967-1972 truck or was it original to the 1973-1979 (or 1973-1977 trucks). All I know is that the one that I posted in post 10, was picked from a 1974 F350

The airfoil antenna is shaped like a triangle.

The one that came off of the 74 appears to have a triangular shape.

In Dennis Carpenter's 1967/79 online catalog, he shows an antenna for a 1967/72: His Ford part number: C7TZ-18813-A

In Dennis Carpenter's 1967/79 bound paper catalog (2011 edition), it says for this same antenna: AIR FOIL SHAPED - MADE EXACTLY LIKE THE ORIGINAL
