Those of you who have 1967-1972 and 1973-1979 trucks, with what appears to be original antennas, can you please post photos of same. Do they look like the one that I posted in post #10?
Thanks for the photos. What's the best way to polish the mast on these things? I think I am going to install it on my 67 as I have an aftermarket one on my truck right now.
Ok to complicate this even further, I thought all the mustangs came to the dealer without antennas installed and it was a dealer option. I read where none of the mustangs used the teardrop design?
I just picked up one of these antennas at Carlisle, but now that I have it home I noticed the base attaches with four screws. The antenna I removed used the same base shape but did not use any screws . similar to this one
the one I picked up at the swap meet attaches like this only my truck doesnt have the screw holes in the cowl.

My method for polishing something like this, especially if its chromed with some surface rust, is to wet some fine steel wool with oil and gently work the surface. Rub it slowly, then wipe the oil off to see your progress as you go.
I did the headliner molding in my truck this way and it removed the rust and left the chrome shiny.

Actually if I remember from Dad's 72 when we rolled a bale of hay over it and broke it, the mast is hollow brass. My very late 76 CC has a round stainless steel mast. One thing you do have to recognize is not to believe everything that you find in the junkyard is the honest truth in being the correctly installed part from the factory. Case in point is the early antenna installed in a 74 F-350. People will install anything to make it work.
Pretty sure its chrome plated, the one I bought I had a vendor try out his chrome polish on it cleaned up decent, not sure I'm going to use it and don't really want to drill four holes in my cowl. So I'm going to go with a mustang one or none at all.
