I went to the hardware store and matched it up. It's a 12/24- 1/2" machine screw, but I still would like to know where to look it up in the books.
Maybe our Number Dummy Bill can tell me where to look.

I have no problem getting the hardware locally. My problem is determining the size and pitch from the illustrations in the parts and text manuals.
The bolts and screws are clearly numbered, but some of the time I can't find it in the index. 42868 S is but one example.

Standard aka hardware part number. Listed under the application (see below 23200-1 in parts catalog pic).
42868-S8 .. Screw & Lockwasher ~ #12 -24 x 1/2" long.
