Best timing for a 279 engine.

Hi gang, Having my carb cleaned. In the mean time, I am looking for the best timing on a 279 . The book says 10 degrees BTDC. I read once that more advance sometimes is preferred. I have also read that using a vacuum meter to obtain the highest vacuum and highest RPM at idle is preferred.

Any thoughts are appreciated.
