1948 Ford front spindle bearing???
can you tell me if the bearing on the spindle on the fronts should be installed with the "seam" up or down?
also..
1. do these get bearings get greased? and recommendations on brand if so?
2. if I need to tap the threaded holes for the zerks how is that done to the taper? is there a common size for that? thanks

Here's a couple of references; unfortunately, they don't appear to agree:

Edit: one more, agrees they go open-side down: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...ml#post7789169
I don't think there's a way to grease them, which tends to give credence to the first thread's idea that they get grease from the zerk below. I just checked mine, and they are with the opening down, been in there 11,000 miles and 10 years, so it can't be too wrong.
Some Zerks are threaded 1/4-27 tapered thread, which is not exactly NPT thread. Others are straight 1/4-28 UNF. They sell little tools that remove, thread, and clean zerk holes (below), most of them are for the straight UNF thread.

As you can see in the pic (3110), there are 4 king pin bushings (51A-3110-A - 1.30" long), are pressed into the spindles.
B-3123 are the 2 spindle bolt bearings.
87907-S8 (8 not shown in pic) is the right Zerk (lubrication) fitting, 87922-S8 is the left Zerk fitting.
Since there's no specs listed in the catalog, these are a press fit into the spindle holes.
GREEN SALES CO. in Cincinnati OH (800-543-4959) has 1,209 87908-S8 & 9 87922-S8

I have the bushings pressed in already, I am wondering about part 87-922S. LMC truck had the bearings and the pins. I just can't tell which way for the bearings go.
I thought that the open side should go up for greasing purposes, but the dirt and grime thing worried me also. Damn old trucks, never any good advice!

87922-S8 is the left side Zerk fitting.
Standard (aka hardware) parts shown in parts catalog illustrations may not have the complete part number suffix, so the standard part must be looked up under what it fits to verify the number.
Notice 87922-S8 (and 87907-S8) in the text section below the 3105-6 spindles. C = F1/F100 / D = F2/F250 / Y = F3/F350 / T = F5/F500 / TL = F4 / TH = F6/F600.
I listed the source for these 2 Zerk fittings in post #5.
