Mud Flaps vs Rock Tamers.

I need to get either mudflaps or Rock Tamers for my F150 so I can protect my trailer or boat while towing. I have always installed mudflaps but am now considering Rock Tamers. Looking for opinions on which to get.

Get both. You will be glad you did in a few years.

The mud flaps are good protection for the truck and what they miss, the Rock Tamers may or may not catch. It is hard to keep a trailer or boat well protected.

I have both and my travel trailer still got some chips from rocks.

Do the Rock Tamers attach to the hitch and come off with it? My Enkay flaps do.

Probably both would be best. I have had good luck with flat low hanging mud flaps. My current Dura-Flaps seem to be the best so far. Pretty moulded mudflaps don't do much to protect the trailer.

I had a set of DuraFlaps mounted on my sold truck (Silverado 2500HD) back in 07 and they are the best IMHO. They looked nearly new after 10 years of use. It's just that the F150's mounting surface is so small that it doesn't seem like it would be mounted solidly . If I do get Duraflaps I would order the extra long ones for the back and then would not purchase the Rock Tamers.
Sure would be nice if some people with 2015/2016 F150 would post some picks from different angles and closeups of there Duraflap installs. That would help a lot of people make up their minds!

Gatorback probably makes best quality flaps for the F150 because they have custom mounting brackets for the rear - part #GB759543

My old F-350 had a set of cut down 18wheeler flaps on the back, previous owner was a logger and WADOT got him on a technicality on his so he went this route. They were great. I'm going that and the rock tamer a on the draw bar as I now tow the wife's car to most jobs so she can get around while I'm at work. Just had $3500.00 work on the front so gotta protect it.

I went with the DuraFlap on the rears. They were a little wider than I like so I trimmed them.

I'm not sure what type of metal they use for the brackets & bolts. I would make sure they are aluminum or at least zinc coated. You don't what your truck to be the sacrificial metal. My flaps came with galvanized brackets & bolts which would also be a good choice but not as good as aluminum.

SS bolts, washers and nuts. Brackets are aluminum. Now that you bring that up I'm wondering about that bottom SS screw and the SS screw holding the z bracket, they are both touching the aluminum body. Can SS react to aluminum? If so I will have to see if I can get a few aluminum washers to buffer between the SS bolt heads.

I'm pretty sure Stainless and Aluminum are far apart on the galvanic chart with Al being the more sacrificial metal. I would not mix those two metals.

Stainless Steel and aluminum

stainless steel and aluminum do not mix well. If you do use stainless steel fasteners make sure you have a barrier between the aluminum. A rubber washer would do the trick. If the two metal do come in contact it will cause corrosion over time.
