driving to fast

I have just bought a new ford f150 2003 4.2 V6. I was told that interstate speeds of 75mph+ would was not good for this engine.
Is this true.

Cool driving to fast

I think your question may be in the wrong forum, but I'll try and answer anyway:First, where do you live that your interstate speed limits are 75mph? and what transmission do you have behind that 4.2?? auto overdrive or manual overdrive?? and what gear ratio is in the rear end?? seems to me that your truck empty, with no load should be able in stock, factory configuration should handle 70-75mph with no problems.

A moderator will move this thread soon I'm sure, but I'll go ahead and add my comments now.

Short answer - The rev limiter will kick in long before you're doing enough RPM's to damage the engine. If 75mpg was going to hurt the engine, then there would be ALOT of engine failures due to this.

BTW, out west 75mph speed limits are common.

Who exactly told you this? Did they by any chance have a bowtie on front of their vehicle?

South Dakota, and a few other states have Interstate limits at 75mph.

Is it possible they were referring to the "break in" period of the engine??

The computer has a top speed limiter and a rev limiter. 75mph with overdrive will not hurt the engine at all. It will probably not be turning but about 2000 to 2200 rpm.
Now if you had no overdrive and 4.56 gears, that's another story. It will be fine @ 75mph.

The thread was moved because it is a tech question for a truck that has a forum for it.
