Engine seems to buck/miss? during acceleration. Like a misfire/crossfire. During the event when it's not bucking/missing it's struggling to accelerate. Doesn't do it all the time. My son says there is a strong gas odor when it occurs but when I drove it couldn't smell anything.Temp doesn't seem to be a factor, engine or climate. Checked most things that I could visually. Plug wires were new about 30k ago. Can't remember brand but were supposed to be lifetime. Rotor and cap show normal wear. Fuel regulator was changed not that long ago(still nice and shiney). No strong odor of gas in vacuum lines. Coil changed a while back. Changed fuel filter a week ago. Going back to my younger days of vacuum advance, I would liken it to the timing not advancing during acceleration. So, fuel or ignition related and where to look?
Did the problem occur after you changed the fuel filter? Otherwise, I'd start by changing the plugs. I don't think there is such a thing as a "lifetime" plug. Won't cost very much to do, and seems a likely source of a misfire.
Was occurring prior to filter change though not as bad. Lifetime was meant for the wires not the plugs. Sorry for not being clear on those. Did pull a couple of plugs, one from each bank. Both normal looking. Have an Autoxray ezscan tool. Waiting for a friend to return the eec-iv cable. Changed the filter as a chance it might be the cause as it had not been changed for quite a while. Looked tonight in the dark to see if sparks were jumping from wires, didn't see anything. Plan to pull cap off completely and take a better look at it. Hopefully will get cable back tomorrow night. What's the small flat module mounted to firewall to the passenger side of distrubutor?
Here are the codes that I got using my AutoXray EZlink scanner.
KOEO-24- Air charge temp or vane temp or vane air temp out of range.
Memory-95- Fuel pump secondary circuit failure.
KOER-41- No exhaust gas oxygen switching detected- always indicating lean.
Scanned twice, there was a second code during the first KOER test that didn't appear on second scan. Can't recall what it was, might of been caused by engine not being warm enough. The code explanations are as displayed on scanner.
