I just ran a wire with the backup camera wiring and taped into the back up light
I just installed a Pioneer Touch Screen radio & you have to hook wire from radio to the car's reverse wire (it is some where in the radio bundle of wires) otherwise I have to manually flip input to camera on radio. I did have camera on my CTS but it has such a small screen & there is such a lag when you start truck to when camera pops up on CTS.
Never found any reverse wire in the radio harness, There is a VSS.
I just used the signal from the PAM that is in the kick panel passenger side,
I'll have to look to get the pin number and wire color. It was very easy to access.
That was not so hard to find.
C4014 is the PAM connector and you want pin #09 wire color BK/PK.
Here are the PDFs.
One for the PAM.
One for the stereo.
One each for the two connectors.
One for the reversing lamps.
With a component location diagram looking
from the front to the rear. With the fire wall see through.
That should more than cover the connectors and diagrams.
In the component locations you want grid E&D 1&2 for the PAM.
I think this should cover it all. Let me know if you need more.
BTW : The harness around the PAM is short and not a lot of room
if I can recall. I did the work in 2012 so it been a while. This is the one
place where doing a tap can be a PITA.
Just guessing but he may be talking the boot time. I know that my
stereo takes a long time to book up BUT if I put it into reverse the
camera is forced to on and I get a view out the back.
How much lag are you talking? I have been thinking of this route in the back of my mind. Would mostly use a camera when towing I think.
CTS boot time is very long. You will have gone into reverse and started driving away before it turns on. Radio is instantaneous. This another reason I don't like using cts as back-up monitor.
I spliced into the reverse light power right behind the under dash fuse box. I also ran a separate 12 volt line to a switch with a couple of diodes. Now I can flip the switch at any time to take a look back there, helpful when towing and want to check the hitch. The diodes are there to prevent the reverse lights from coming on when I flip the switch..
