It’s cool to see that you’re still rocking this thing a few years later.
Interesting build.
I like Ike the bumper! Have you had to use your winch?
did the bumper hold up?
I have used the winch once to drag a garden tractor across the yard LOL... about 800lbs so not too heavy... need to really put some tension on it though and test my design...
Another delayed post from me... knocked this out about 6 months ago..... this one gave me a lot of shrinkage problems that my front bumper didn't give me and I'm still trying to sort out why.....
What do you mean "shrinkage"? Your rear bumper looks great. Are you going to mount the spare tire on it too?

I ended up doing much of my welding at temperatures below 45 Degrees and on my table..... What I encountered was some MAJOR Warping and distortion which I think was partially attributed to the design but also due to the MAJOR Temperature changes... By the time the construction was complete the ends had actually pulled both Up and forward. To correct it (still has a small bulge in the lower edge due to it) I had to split the rear plate and then bend the bumper to remove almost 1.5 Inches of warp from 2 different directions....
Also I didn't discover it till after the fact and it was all built and installed... I built the recess for the License plate too narrow... I fitted it to a License plate... NOT THE BORDER FRAME!!!!! So I trimmed down the border frame. LOL
When I was in high school we did some arc welding and I saw some warping due to the heat generated. But 1.5 inches? That's some warp! It looks great now so kudos to you for fixing it.
I know it's been quite some time since I've updated this but I did get the truck painted not long after i finished the bumper actually..... well all except the roof anyways. I have also since added a set of West Coast mirrors due to losing the glass in the drivers side mirror and I had been wanting West Coast mirrors since 2007 so I figured what the hell....
I know I'm reviving an old thread.
Rangernut, are those mirrors from an aftermarket company or were they off of another OBS Ford?
Looks good! I did a front one for mine A few years ago after hitting a deer at 60 mph. I did the same “build one the fly” 👍🏻 My winch is on a receiver and I built the bumper around it so I can remove the winch and put it on the back. Toying with the idea of building a rear bumper soon will have to look closer at your rear pics 👍🏻
Gonna revive an old thread, Had to use my winch a few years ago to drag a buddy's Chevy mud truck out of a bog. He was buried clear up to the belly of the truck. I was able to get him out with my winch AND test my welds at the same time, It took a 98 Jeep Cherokee and a Full size Chevy truck to anchor me to keep the winch from dragging me.
Initially it was dragging just my truck then we hooked my buddy's jeep to the back of mine, was dragging them both. It took the near 7k of my truck, the weight of the cherokee and the weight of a 2wd Chevy long bed to get him out and I was maxing out this winch.
What I need to do is see if I can get an old wrecker bed and turn this beast into an Off road recovery rig.
I also had finally built the forementioned tire carrier and it was on the truck for a few weeks before I took a RR crossing too fast and broke the hinge post. Need to make some mods. I did have pics of the build but my computer crashed and I no longer have them but SHOULD be able to grab them out of my FB profile... will try and do that and get them posted as well.
