1989 F-250 Custom V8 351W 5.8L
Vehicle starts right up but won't accelerate in 1st or 2nd gear. Has trouble reversing without dieing. I know the catalytic Convertor is clogged, is this the only thing that would cause this issue? Could the EGR valve be stuck open or closed?
Even if it's in drive and I hold the brake all the way and push the gas pedal RPMs won't go up. In park the RPMs go up just fine. Please help thanks
How do you know the cat is clogged?
What is the fuel pressure? Low fuel pressure is the most likely cause.
Stuck EGR won't cause your problem, it would stumble at idle but clear up at rpm
While you're at it pull codes and post up what you get.

The cat gets red hot after a little bit of driving. I don't know how to pull codes even reading the guides on engine off key on type stuff. Paper clip and all that
That could be all the extra fuel that the motor is getting, go get yourself an Equus 3145 code reader.. it's 20 bucks or something that's all and it will eliminate all the guess work.

Last night I installed a tachnometer just for fun. Took a short half mile drive down to the store. Came out started the truck up and all my lights went out, interior & exterior, except the front right headlight. So that's cool LOL
Check your codes, definitely, but your cat shouldn't glow. Back pressure can affect intake, etc. so if your exhaust isn't flowing your O2 sensor isn't able to do it's job, or may not be working anyway, and it could be telling the computer to run rich. Richness = high fuel usage. If it's high enough you can smell it. Test your backpressure, or if you know the cat is truly clogged, replace it. You can also disconnect your exhaust and run it for a bit that way to see what difference it makes.
