I just bought my first Fridge, A 1960. It a project truck that is about 80% finished. The P/O did an axle flip to lower it, I've never done one but I am pretty sure this wasn't done correctly. The axle rests on the bump stops and there is Zero suspension travel! Would adding a set of Air Shocks allow me to gain some suspension travel? I like the lowered look but I'm not looking for a hardtail Fridge!
After several hours of reading and studying pictures I think if I remove and flip the rear spring hangers I may get a couple inches of lift and regain some suspension travel. I see that this is used a lot on 4wd trucks to gain some lift. Any thoughts or experience with this?
No "C" notch, if I had a c notch i'm pretty sure I wouldn't have this problem.
I have the rear axle mounted below the leaf springs, in the stock location, on my '57. I flipped the front spring hanger and had the main leaf spring eyes reversed. I estimate it gave me about a 4" drop in the rear and I have about 3"-4" of clearance between the axle and bump stops.
