I bought a new 2015 Taurus with the "regular" V6. At 288 hp it's pretty fun to drive. The SHO would be a blast!

I did email 5 Star and they will provide a tune. May do that at some point.

Back to the V10 stories......

On a 100mi trip, 50mi empty and 50mi loaded back home the 06 V10 got 7.1MPG trip average towing this like a champ...

The wide load signs not visible in this picture and I do my best to stay within the legal weight limits.

To be honest you know it's back there and 0-60 probably takes a quarter-mile without reving it over 4000rpm... It will move the load surprisingly quickly screaming with the tack buried but I don't like to drive it that way.

Wish I had the 4.30's stock instead of the 4.10's, it takes a very careful foot to hold 5th gear on the flats at 60MPH in tow/haul (34.5" stock size tires)... 4.56's or deeper behind the the 3V V10 would in my opinion be a gas burning towing monster.

I enjoy my V10 also. I wish I had deeper gears than the 4.10's though. My max tow rating is 14,000lbs and feel like I'm at 75% of that or more most of the time and could use better gears.

I have the 4.30's and think they are great. I am running 285/70/17's that are roughly 33" tall. My last Super Duty was 4.30's also so I don't have much to compare to.

Unless your tires are really big there is not much difference in the 4.10 and 4.30.

I have 3.73, wish I have 4.30s or 4.56s.

What does it cost to swap installing them yourself?

Not sure but I bet about 300 per axle for parts.

I also find most of my towing is stop and go with hills. I feel this is a true towing test experience compared to accelerating on the on ramp and then using the assistance of inertia to guide you along at 60mph. Yea, yea I know a lot tow the highways in the mountains.

10k+ of trailer is a different experience from a stop to a country backroad hill. That's a 30mph tow until I start reaching the crest. I will say that with the 3V V10 this a considerably better experience than the 3V 5.4 I had. I am also not one to wind it out like a lot do on here. Not my cup of tea to be at 4800rpms regardless of what is said. I'll stick to the 30mph at 3500rpms vs 38 at 4500rpms.

Unhooked I'm quite impressed at a WOT start. For a dually that thing moves!!

If you want to really move off the line, hold the brakes for a split second when you floor the skinny pedal.... If there's anything on the dash it will hit the back of the front seat (or melt the tires) . The throttle by wire has a slight leg time and giving it a bit to catch up it is a fun experience..... (I only do this to show off)

Gearing makes all the difference in the world with the V10! I love my truck and even tho it drinks gas like a airliner I don't worry about much. I have an airaid intake, banks monster exhaust and 5star tuning on the 3v and it pulls incredible well for the amount of power it has.

I have 5.13 gears because of the 38's so it about a 4.40 equivalent ratio now. It pulls our 11k+ TT very well, but 7mpg is a stretch around here with all the hills and pulling between 65-70 mpg. Next year's big purchase will be 82 gallon transfer tank so I won't have to stop as often.

It has been such a reliable truck, I wouldn't think twice about recommending a V10 to people.

Despite having a 99 V10 with a little less power and 3.73, I've still been impressed by my V10 since buying my new-to-me TT. I've climbed into the Sierra Nevada mountains twice now with 7-8,000lbs behind me and it being close to 100 degrees outside. I got down to 45 mph on the Sherwin Grade, but it is a 6% grade toping out at over 7,000 feet, and it didn't get over 210F. Best of all is that I averaged 9.5 mpg on both trips despite all that.

No complaints here on my old underpowered 2V V10.

There's nothing wrong with the 99 V10, still a great engine.

I could be wrong but I'm thinking that the non-PI engines actually did better with higher gearing than the PI engines?... I 'think' they have slightly better low-end torque and aren't as Rev happy.

That has been on my wish list for a while now, after I pay for and replace the fuel sending unit so I can have a functioning fuel gauge again and replace the tires (wish I had 17" rims when pricing tires but the 18"s are really good at towing hevy) i'm hoping to join the five star club.
