Hi everyone. I've searched this forum with not much luck. I have a 2012 King Ranch. Gps usually works, but when it doesn't, the car symbol seems to bounce around, or the map bounces around the symbol. Can't figure out why it happens, just does at different times, makes no sense. Took into my dealer for testing but since I have a tuner installed and although I have put it back to stock for other work requiring computer downloading, they tell me it won't read the problem!? This particular guy was a bit of a stick in the mud so don't know if he tried very hard. The rest of the guys are excellent. Have a lot of custom stuff done to the truck but they treat me very well considering. Anyways, I don't know what to do. Does anyone have any suggestions? Do I need a new GPS? Can I go to a stereo shop? Would they know? I would prefer to stay at dealer. Hope there's enough info here for you guys. Let me know. Thx. Jim
What is the build date of you truck (Before 7/01/2012?). I believe that there is a TSB 12-8-19 that can be done to diagnose your problem or at least find out if it is software or hardware.
Maybe you can private message the Ford SYNC team.
Ok I will certainly try this. Thanks guys, I will let you know.
Hey jimmystoys,
Have you had the tires replaced or rotated? The navigation system operates from the calibration of the tires, so if you've had any work done, that can be why you're having issues. If this is the case, the dealer will need to re-calibrate the tires. If this isn't this isn't the case, I agree with senix and MPD56's recommendations. Keep me in the loop!
Yes Cara, I have had the tires replaced since new (at 5000 miles). Gps worked fine till about a year ago. Build date is March 2012. Called Ford Canada yesterday. They transferred me to Navigation.com who apparently does all the updates for Sync and whatnot. For $149 + shipping US, they would send me a cd that I could download for updates. No guarantees it would even address the Gps issue. So I decided to revisit my dealer. They were pretty good about it. They don't remember the past diagnostics they tried, but agreed to see what they could do on my next oil change (have package with them) which should only be a few weeks away. So we'll just wait a bit and see what happens. In the meantime I will try the master reset. Thanks everyone. Keep you posted.
Doubt a map update will solve any problems. I would try the sync update first. Seems like there is a method to re-calibrate the compass. I am not sure if the compass has any input into the Nav/GPS or not
FYI:
If you update update SYNC it will do a Master Reset.
Also I had a problem sort of like yours and after the update it hasn't happen. Also as Cara mention, the Ford NAV system uses the tire information to figure out the location of the vehicle when the Sat signal are lost for a short time let a building or trees.
I agree with Larry. The map up date will not help or has anything to do with your problem.
I have 40" tires installed since the summer of 2012 with no problems up until about a year ago. My understanding is the tire reset was not available because of the extreme difference in tire size from stock. Although the inflation chime comes on every time, I mute it, which just leaves the symbol on in the dash. I was satisfied with that.
Guy at work just bought a used 2011 F350 with 40". I just took it for a ride yesterday and no TPMS alarm. I'm sure that the dealer or tire shop could progam that for you. I had the Dealer set all my tires to 65 psi (The backs on the F350 srw are 80 psi)

Definitely see if they'll re-calibrate the tires for you. Looking forward to your update!
Well everyone, its been awhile now. Had Ford scan the truck with better luck this time. I don't know what issues they had last time, maybe it was a a friday or monday I can't remember lol, anyways, once I returned my tuner to stock they managed to do some update on the gps system. However, the technician did seem to think there was a bit of an issue while he was updating. He said if this didn't work the antenna might have to be changed? Maybe?...just great! Anyways we were on our way. Went down through La Grande Oregon, over to Coos Bay and up the coast back to Canada. The gps gave us issues only once (omg here we go again!) and then never again!?...so far. So, I'm holding my breath that it won't happen again. Wish me luck. Thanks for everyone's help.
