i have a 6" lift on my '87 f-150 and am runnin 36" super swampers, i plan on liftin it a little bit more just for the hell of it, it has a 2" block in the rear so i thought that i would just get a bigger block in the rear, but the front is a little different cuase of the ttb of course. ive seen those like spacer things that you can put under the coils that kinda look like blocks but for coils, but im not sure how those work out. but i plan on makein it solid front axel in the future at some point so im not quite sure what im doing yet im just gettin ideas right now.
thanks for the help
If you put coil spring spacers in the front ttb it will cause your tires to be way off camber. The tops of the tires will be way out of alignment. You would have to drop the center hinge brackets the same amount that you spaced the coil springs. A body lift would allow you to clear up to 38's potentially with some fender trimming.
Alot of people run the body lift/ suspension lift combo(I am one). It does put alot of twist/flex on the body. Just thought I would throw in my two cents. My dash creaks a touch from flexing on rocks and such.
I would have to agree with the body lift idea. That is how mine is. I don't have any real problems with the set up and am running 39.5 with minor fender(and bumper) trimming. I was wondering what kind of 6 inch lift you have now? Do you have the extended radius arms with stock brackets or stock radius arms with drop brakets? I have a n idea I have been playing with alittle, if you have long radius arms, I'll tell you about it. Later.
I am interested in your idea. Always up for new ones. If you e-mail me at jrjohnson717(No Email Addresses In Posts!) or reply to this thread maybe we can figure out all the pro's and con's. I have a friend that will always try new things on his truck, he would be a good guinea pig.
Ok in the front, if you have extended radius arms and stock brackets on a 6" lift, if you get 6" drop brackets that will lower them. If you grind the rivets out of the spring buckets on the frame and space them down 4", drill and reattach them to the frame. If you get a piece of 4" channel steel, you can bolt it between the frame bottom and the bucket. It will all be as strong as it was. Now for the tricky part. If you have say, skyjacker, drop pivet points for the TTB, then take them off and have a proffesional welder split them and lengthen them 4". When I say lenthen I mean make them taller from top to bottom by 4". Now if you reassemble all the pieces, put the pivet bolts in the four inch hole instead of the 6 inch hole, and you have a total of 10" in the front. In the future adding a set of 8" springs you can change the pivet to the 6' hole and end up with 12" total in the front. Make up the difference in the rear however you like. Blocks, springs, shackle flip, whatever. I hope that made sense, and sorry it was so long. Talk to ya'll again real soon.
that sounds like a good idea and all but adding on to the drop bracket for the axels like that cant be that strong at all, i can just see myself now doin sometin hardcore and breakin one of those brackets at a weld, but i am going to wait untill i do a solid front axel conversion to see what exactly im goin to do about more lift. but that really was a good idea.
