1969 Front Drums

Hi all,

I have an 1969 E200 that I am trying to replace the front breaks on. I took off the drums and brought them to be turned, but there is not enough metal left. Can anyone point me to new or new old stock of front drums? These are the ones with the wheel bearings built in.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Jim,

Thanks for the reply, however, my drums have the wheel barrings built in. As far as I can tell the center of the drum with the barrings is not separable from the breaking part of the drum. Am I making sense here? I followed your link and those drums are the "floating" type without the integral barrings.

Do I have this right, or am I missing an obvious way to separate the two?

No such thing!

As far as I can tell the center of the drum (hub) with the bearings is not separable from the breaking part of the drum.
Wrong again!
The drum is retained to the hub with lug studs that have serrations on the end for this purpose. Ford only sold the drum & hub as a unit.

You might be able to buy just the drum from auto parts stores. If so, the old drum should be pressed off the hub, new drum pressed on. Make sure you replace the studs!

C8TZ-1102-C .. Hub & Drum Assy - Use with 11" x 3" front brakes / Obsolete

Applications: 1969/74 E200.

NOS PARTS LTD in Waxahachie TX has 1 = 972-937-2201.

GREEN SALES CO. in Cincinnati OH has 2 = 800-543-4959.

HIGH BUCK! BOB ALLEN FORD in Overland Park KS has 3 = 913-381-2999.

Upper pic: 1969/74 E200 pic is confusing, so here's the older Econoline pic. You can see in both these pics that the hub is separate from the drum.

This is the case with most other auto makers. Pontiac Grand Prix's with aluminum wheels from the 1960's were unique, as the hub/drum and wheel were a single unit.

We used to replace single studs broken by overzealous tire changer guys. Sometimes 2 or3 studs in the same wheel!

Thanks! That explains things a bit! I was wondering why the parts catalog had the drum separate from the hub... I just assumed that they were wrong. Glad to know it is the other way around.

I found everything on rockauto, luckily I was able to have mine turned, some are sold together, if not, find a shop who'll press em for you. It's fun having to deal with the bearings just to pull the drum, you are fortunate, having the 200 gives you the same bolt pattern as the trucks, find a truck and get the entire beam assembly and put it in your van, it'll give you disc brakes.
