This may sound like a stupid question, but I don't know where to hook up new battery cables. My truck is missing one of them. The one that already on it goes under the engine and appears to be grounded to the block so if assume that is negative. Where does the positive cable go? Thanks.
The positive cable goes from the + post of the battery to the forward side of the starter solenoid. A second cable, electrically dead except in Start, goes from the rear (opposite) terminal to the starter.
BUT before installing the cable, please oh please inspect the electrical connections at the solenoid and the entire truck.
Also, turn all systems to the off position or ya might get surprised. If the truck is automatic, ensure it either in park or neutral. If manual trans, verify it is in neutral. In both cases, parking brake on.... we wouldn't want you pinned against the garage wall....... or worse.
