I got my 7.3 I did factory turbo. Single cab long bed 4x4 with a 5 speed. Pretty much stock except exhaust and fuel turned up a notch but idk how much cuz I didn't do it and I have a small skip and I think it's the injectors but I'm not sure. My friend has a 96 psd and his a single cab long bed 4x4 automatic. It has a 5 pos chip with 6 inch lift Springs with 37s. He thinks it could have a bigger turbo but he doesn't really know. He also thinks his truck needs injectors cuz it has a small skip to it. The other day we drag raced for the heck of it down a 2 lane highway and I smoked his truck and his was allike the way on performance setting on the chip. I know they probly both need injectors but what's your opinion of this? I'm not in it to have a race truck it was just for fun but I would of assumed if it's true that nothing trucks need injectors and mine pretty much stock that the psd would of beat me.
agreed. his large tires hurt him.
but on the other side of the coin a properly running turbo IDI is about equal to a stock powerstroke.
so with his oversized tires, and your turbo on the IDI, you were pretty much equal on engines.
torque wins races.the idi has loads of base compression, giving you the advantage off the line.combine that with his big heavy tires and he didn't stand a chance.
chip don't mean much from an idle.
plus, you had the advantage off the bat with the 5 speed. his automatic did not lock the torque converter until he was doing around 25-30mph.
True I didn't think about that my he said he wants to get stage 2 injectors. I'm gunna replace mine with stock replacements and do my cold air intake that I havn't had time for yet. I'm sure then if we raced he probly beat me.

the zf5 is no match for the e4 in a drag race.the psd had a huge advantage in this regard.however no where near enough to compensate for those huge meats and tall effective gearing.all else being equal, the e4od hands the zf5 it's ars at the strip.
it is all up to the driver. if you know what you are doing and the person with the "bigger engine" does not, the "bigger engine" driver is going to loose the race every time.
Hard to not know what you're doing with an e4od. Just floor it.
A late factory turbo idi and early psd will be close to each other. The 7.3 truck has the huge tires working against it, and if it had a skip, it probably has tired injectors and or a weak hpop system. A tuned 7.3 should smoke a near stock idi.
