Broke down 180 miles from home.

Need some ideas what to do next. Driving into Harrison Ar. The 05 overheated. Nursed it into an oreillys parking lot and popped the hood. Coolant spraying from the thermostat housing.

Went into the store and bought parts. Changed the thermostat, thermostat housing, and the fan clutch in the parking lot. Buttoned it back up within 10 minutes of idling in the parking lot it was back into the red.

Got a buddy bringing a flatbed so I can get home tonight, but I'm unsure what to change next. Water pump shaft has no play and it isn't leaking. And just for giggles I put another thermostat in it.

The guys in the parts store are guessing anything from intake gaskets to blown head gaskets, but it's not displaying symptoms of either. So I don't know what to look at next.

Ideas?

you could have an air pocket.. I would let it cool off, then refill the overflow tank.. May need to do that a couple times.. If it was gaskets, you should have some symptoms... are you using fluid ? Tank level low ? Exhaust gas pressure inside tank ? Burp the air out, refill the tank, and go from there.

do those have a coolant temp sensor on them? I had an 03 f150 5.4L the coolant temp sensor went out and that made the gauges read hot and it went into fail safe mode. bad radiator cap will cause overheating, as well as already suggested air in the system.
