I put a new clutch in my truck. Then it wouldn't start and had to replace my distributor and after I re timed it it won't climb hills. It does OK on flats and down hills it just takes a little more gas then usual but it doesn't go up hills. I revved it up to around 3,000 rpm and let the clutch out on the base of a hill but the truck just stalled out. So if the clutch isn't slipping what is it? I'm really lost and getting fed up. It's a 1994 ford f150 4x4 5.0l with the m5od 5 speed
Did you pull the SPOUT plug when you set the base timing? If you left it in then you have severely retarded the timing which results in low power as you described.
Be sure the timing gets set to 10 BTDC or a little more. Use the guide I posted before to ensure you are using the correct pointer. The other possibility is a slipped outer hub on the balancer, that will throw off the true base timing.
Scroll down to the tdc indicator section and read.
I made one out of an old spark plug. Turned out my balancer had slipped and the timing marks are wrong. So timing it to where the balancer shows 14 degrees was really closer to zero. The performance was aweful. This MAY be the case for you as well.
