Well I contacted Dennis Carpenter (since I had something else to get from them) about this and got an interesting reply when I said their part number ...C6AZ-6206066-A didn't match their picture.
"We do not go by the Ford part numbers. We have our own part numbers that we go by. C6AZ-6206066-A, that is the part number for our glove box door bumpers. We do not carry the retainer clip you are needing."
How crazy is that ! DC's part number C6AZ-6206066-A is actually C7TZ?-353951-S. Makes Google searches for Ford part numbers a little dicey when looking at results from DC.
I did order a C6AZ-6206066-A from NOS Parts and received the actual part I was looking for...just broken. It was in the original, unopened Ford service parts bag so I knew it was the right Ford part number.
Sent email to Tony's Parts to see if they have any.

That doesn't make sense and yeah, that makes locating parts just that more difficult.
In case you strike out with Tony's let me know, there are two Ford dealers that have a total of nine of the C6AZ-6206066-A.

So what is C6AZ-6206066-A? Is that the retaining clip or the spring?
So, I am having a similar problem. I have new springs, and I just bought new plugs from Bronco Graveyard. It looks like if I put spring on the dash, and the plug on the spring, there is nothing to hold the spring to the dashboard and it will just fall off. From the pictures, it looks like there is something the plug is supposed to connect to. Otherwise, I think my option is to push the spring through from the back.
I found a post on 67-72 a guy gave McMaster Carr part # 90136A583 plastic retainers, that goes thru the spring into the whole where your rubber bumpers are and locks in.Well I ordered them ,you cant get 1 or 2 or 10 you have to get 100,,,,And sure enough I push it in ,kinda snug and it worked like a charm with a new spring,,,,,,,If any body needs plastic retainer shoot me a pm and Ill put it in an envelope with a stamp and get it to you
Took notice today, my '77 has a bumper top left, and the spring top right, and the light switch button in the bigger hole on left under bumper.
I'm thinking the bumper is there to protect the light switch button from bottoming as a driver slaps the door shut ... the spring being there to assist in grasping the top edge once the door has been unlatched, by pushing the door out from the dash a bit.
