Hey guys so my 05 v10 4x4 Ex is equipped with reverse parking sensors and latley last few weeks now when I put the truck in reverse they start beeping like there is something behind me when there is nothing, and the problem is becoming more and more often each day. my initial thought was maybe they were dirty I wiped them clean and no change double checked that they were all plugged in properly and all the wiring appears to be intact. I literally know nothing about this system and how it works I've spent some time looking around the threads, searching google but havnt had much luck, I'm sure there is a lot of info out there on this just don't know how to search for it anyone know much about this system?where to start looking, or common problems causing this type of symptom? Or maybe know of a few threads talking about this any help would greatly be appreciated it gets agrivating hearing the beeps when I know there is nothing behind me
If you have a good code reader you can read the codes and it will tell you which sensor is going bad.
Also if you can get some help when you put the truck into reverse ******(parking brake on)****** you can put your ear by each sensor and they should be clicking at the same loudness. if you have one that is clicking less or not as loud then that is your faulty sensor.
When you turn the truck on and put it in reverse the back up sensors go through a systems check. If there is something not responding (one of the sensors, speaker, wire short, dash switch) then it will automatically set a soft code (no check engine light) and turn the off light on. It could be a bad sensor, the speaker or the harness itself.
If you hook up a scanner like auto enginuity, a scan gauge or torque pro it will show you which sensor is malfunctioning. Here are the possible codes:
C1701 Rear Outer Left Sensor Fault - PAM
C1704 Rear Outer Right Sensor Fault - PAM
C1707 Rear Inner Left Sensor Fault - PAM
C1710 Rear Inner Right Sensor Fault - PAM
C1742 Rear Sounder Circuit Failure - PAM
C1743 Rear Sounder Circuit Short to Battery - PAM
C1748 Switch Input Circuit Short to Ground - PAM
C1920 LED No.1 Circuit Short to Ground - PAM
