I just came back from helping my mother in law move from Ft. Worth, TX to Reno, NV. I drove my 2000 F250 PSD from Maryland to TX, picked up her 7K# trailer, filled my 8' bed with more "stuff" and humped it to Reno and back to MD I must say the truck performed like a champ, never missing a beat. This is my first time really using it for what it was intended, instead of routine runs to the dump, etc.
With temperatures in the 100's the EOT never went above 218, ECT around 195 and Tranny around 198.
The oil level dropped a tiny bit but still in the normal range of the dipstick. I was using Amsoil 15w40 premium Diesel and ELC coolant. I want to send a sample of it to Blackstone to see how much life is left in it after 6400+ miles of high temps and towing. Average MPG loaded was about 12.5-13 and without the trailer around 20-21 (65-70MPH)
Total trip mileage was 6,400 miles in a week with 3 of us taking turns driving, the truck never really had a chance to take a break :-)
My only bummer is that it finally broke the 100K mile mark!
Just wanted to share how awesome this motor and truck are!!!
These trucks can do incredible things. One time I had two injectors loose for about 1000 miles on a trip far from home. The truck sounded like two robots battling in a can, smoked like a fog bank, and lost some of it's oomph - but it got me home while making 18.5 MPG. Even when hurting - these rigs are tough enough.
I'm like Denny, Michigan salt is taking a toll on my rig (Denny- Love Tawas & Oscoda, trying to make a move up there) . Drive her until she falls apart though.
Heck, Maryland salt takes it's toll on them. Of course I am the one spreading it, but there are a plethora of Superduty's here with the cancerous wheel wells. But it's always good to hear when people are impressed or surprised by how well these trucks do their intended jobs.
Agreed - I am always impressed when we take a road trip to Florida & the truck keeps on keeping on pulling the 5er, especially it being 14 years old. She just loves to pull large heavy objects.
Nice!! Thanks all, it is a workhorse and I plan on keeping it until it dies.
HKusp- I guess I am fortunate, I bought my truck from a LEO up in Michigan but he did not drive it a lot in winter since it is only a RWD, so no cancerous damage on this baby :-) A little surface frame rust but nothing deeper than that.
Ohh, BTW I love my H&K USP. 40 :-) That and my Colt 1911 Mark IV series 70 Gold Cup NM are my favorites
