Ok the IPR nut is fine, an hour ago I started the truck, It was sounding good, 1 mile from my house as I left a stop light and began to slowly speed up, I noticed the RPMS were going up and the truck would not shift from 2nd to drive. I pulled over WAIT TO START light was blinking even though truck was running. I drove back trying to recreate the shifting problem, it didn't happen again. Although while on the way back the truck died twice it restarted no problem. Pulled in my drive way put it in park 30 seconds later truck died and wouldn't restart, when I turn on the key The WTF and the "WAIT TO START LIGHT" CLICK and go on and off. And I've done the wiggle test on every wire I can touch. I called the diesel shop and made an appointment for july 18th, but I'm going to keep trying myself until then.
The only time the WTS light comes on is when you first turn the key. You could have a loose/shorted wire in the steering column, or your key switch may be flaky. Pulling the column apart isn't bad, but getting the cover off the ignition key needs prior knowledge: At the bottom of the ignition switch, there is a spring-loaded button. With key in the ignition and in Run (Key On Engine Off), push up on the button and pull the key. This then allows you to remove the top column cover.
It turned out to be the fuel heater was one problem. and the other was that I bought the truck with 60,000 Miles on it no knowing that the previous owner had installed a chip. Yesterday I broke down, and a young guy walked over and asked if I needed help. I told him no thanks I'll get it, He had a shirt that said WEST COAST DIESEL I asked him if he worked there. Turns out he owns it. He said bring it by in an hour and he would take a look. I went there, he asked if I took the plug off the fuel heater. I hadn't becuase it was froze on and I was afraid to break it. he got it off and the truck ran fine. Then he asked what chip I have. I said it's stock and that it does'nt have a chip. He pulled the computor and showed me a chip. It seems someone put a chip in before I bought the truck. And when they put the computor back they zip tied it in instead of useing the two bolts. So I want to thank you all for your help.
Thanks, Mel
What a "stroke" of luck. It would have taken us a while to sort that out, because we're not there to look at things. If the previous owner did a poor job of cleaning/tinning the connector on the PCM, this would wreak all manner of havoc.
