Teflon tape?

Ive read not to use it on brake lines then i hear some people used it and had no trouble.

Well i had an inverted flare leaking at the master cylinder. I tried tightening it and it leaked some brake fluid. I didnt want to strip the threads though. I guess the threads were too long and wouldnt seal the flare. But i teflon taped it and tighten down hard on it and now there are no leaks.

I drove it around. No leak. I taped it to where it shouldnt block the brake fluid hole.

Will this be ok? I know the flare is suppose to seal its own.

The reasoning behind NOT making use of teflon tape on brake lines is to avoid the possibility of getting tape particles in the line if the threads are improperly wrapped.

At the same time, given the high pressures in a brake system, I would not want to rely on a taped line for my safety. A proper repair should be made, IMHO.

I work in the power plant industry and what we normally do is if the threads are tapered it gets teflon tape. If it has straight threads with a sealing surface other than the threads then tape is a bandaid until the fitting can be replaced.

With that said, if it was my vehicle, and there are no more leaks, I'd drive it.
